The True Power of Prayer
How have your thoughts been treating you?
Have you noticed if they are grounded in the Truth of love and oneness, or in a belief in fear and separation? Have your thoughts impacted your experience in a positive or negative way is another way to find the answer.
The good news is that we have the power to choose the nature of our thinking,
thought by thought.
Last week we explored Unity Principle 3 which holds that human beings create their experiences through the activity of their thinking/feeling. Everything in the manifest world has its beginning in thought.
It is useful to think of Principles 3- 5 as practices that help us align more fully with the truth of the first two principles which are the basis for everything. Everything!
1. God is Absolute Good, always present.
2. Human beings have a spark of Divinity within them. Their very essence is of God, and therefore they are also inherently good.
Principle 4 states that, Prayer is creative thinking that heightens our connection with God-Mind and therefore brings forth wisdom, healing, prosperity and everything good. This gives us a very specific way to use the power of our thoughts- in prayer.
This requires that we grow our understanding of prayer from a conversation with a God-figure outside of us, to one of communing with the Presence that resides within us. As we make that shift, we are less inclined to ruminate over the details of ‘the issue’ because we already know them. There is no need to report them to a far off God in the sky. Sifting through the details of the issue keeps the creative power of our mind operating at the level of the problem.
That isn’t really
prayer. That is just human nature.
The true purpose of prayer then is to consciously connect with the presence of Divine Love that resides within us, allowing it to permeate our thinking and feeling nature. From that place of inner connection, we focus on opening our mind to allow more and more of that Love into our awareness.
As we do this, we access more wisdom, more
peace, more understanding, more strength than is ever available through the
limits of our human intellect. This is the basis of affirmative prayer. Instead
of asking someone (God) outside of us
to ‘fix’ something, we focus our thoughts on the knowing that we are
expressions of Divine Love (God), and we have access to all of the divine attributes that fully
support us in meeting any challenge we are facing.
As we grow in our
knowledge of this, we grow in our ability to claim it.
Principle 3 reminds us that what we focus on in consciousness
expands in consciousness. This is the
basis of the infamous Law of Attraction, also known as the Law of Mind Action.
Principle 4 provides us with a practice based on the true purpose of the Law of Attraction- to align our minds with Divine Mind. This is the truest answer to prayer-- discovering and living from the awareness of the greatest truth of who and what we are as expressions of the Divine!
Take time now to reflect on the power that your thoughts
and feelings have on your experience.
Consider the true power of prayer as one that grounds your thoughts and feelings
in the truth of who you are as an expression of all that you can imagine God to
be! It doesn't mean that you won't face challenges. But it can change how they challenge you.
Join us Sunday at 10am as we continue this exploration of
the power of prayer.
I am truly enjoying going back to the basics of Unity and New Thought concepts. Thanks Trish
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of information here and I'm sure I don't understand it all. I guess my first question is this: What prayers can be answered? What is "affirmative prayer"? Can I get an example of an affirmative prayer? What is a good way to pray and what is a good thing to pray for?
ReplyDeleteThank you!! Yes we can begin each day with this way of being.
