Making the Decision for Christ

I thought that might get your attention! 😀

We continue our exploration of the teachings of Jesus by way of His Great Discovery: the Divinity within Humanity.
No doubt this great discovery forever changed the concept of God among those that were present to hear the teachings of Jesus. For those who believed his message, God was brought out of the sky into the world as a Spiritual Presence, imbuing all of creation.

Yet, this great discovery does not mean all that much if it is tied to the personhood of Jesus of Nazareth. The relevance of this discovery is that it remains accessible for all of us,as the path by which we can discover and claim this powerful connection within ourselves! Of course, a commitment is required; it is not the only path. Making the decision for Christ requires us to claim the faith of Jesus; to know, and to claim, for ourselves this Kingdom of God within.

Let’s simplify this bejeweled term, the Kingdom of God to mean the place within our own awareness where we know and connect with God, by whatever name we have come to call it. Unity calls this place of knowing within our consciousness, the CHRIST within.

“The Christ in you is you at the point of God. It is your ‘hope of glory’ for it is your true root in the Divine Mind” (Butterworth, Discover the Power Within You, pg. 20).

Just as point of clarification, this ‘hope of glory’ is not meant to infer that we are helpless sinners in need of saving. At least not in the same way that many of us were taught to believe. “Christ in you, your hope of Glory” points to our true, Spiritual nature, which is whole and complete. It is that within us that if of Spirit Itself.

Consciously connecting with and claiming this within us is what strengthens and glorifies us. As we have learned, when we are disconnected from our True Nature, and believe ourselves to be separate, we often think and act in ways that are sinful. That is to say that we fall short of expressing our highest and best. When we are connected to our True Nature, (The Christ within), we are grounded in our Oneness with Spirit, and supported by a greater wisdom and sense of true wholeness. When we are connected in this way, we are  able to access a higher realm of possibilities and ideas.

To make a decision for Christ then, is to choose to believe in the presence of God within and all around us above all else. It is to know and claim the fullness of our life as an expression of Divine Life –here and now. This decision ultimately carves a new path in our understanding.

Making this decision is the first step.
It sounds easy but Jesus gives the following lesson that seems to indicate otherwise.

“Enter ye in by the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many are they that enter in thereby. For narrow is the gate, and straightened the way, that leadeth unto life, and few are they that find it” (Matt 7:13-14)

Consider for yourself:
  • What do you think these two gates (or roads) are meant to illustrate?
  • How does one lead to destruction, and the other to life?
  • Why do you suppose fewer people find the narrow way that leads to life?
  • Which path have you chosen?

Join us on Sunday at 10 as we continue this exploration.
